In Ukraine, scientists decided to conduct a study to find out the quality of current fuels. Samples of petrol were taken from several gas stations for this purpose. The experiment was conducted by the Consumer Expertise Institute. Both national networks (WOG, OKKO, ANP, PRIME, SOCAR, MARSHALL, BRSM NAFTA) and regional ones (KLO, AVANTAGE 7, ZOG, BVS, NEFTEK, UKRPETROL, RUR, SUNOIL) participated in the inspection. To ensure the purity of the experiment, samples were taken from private gas stations in Kyiv and Dnipro.
Firstly, experts checked the octane number. The standard is not lower than 95 units. All gas stations met this requirement. WOG outperformed all competitors with 97.7 units. The others are: OKKO (96.8), KLO (96.8). PRIME, AVANTAGE 7, and ZOG scored over 96 units.
The second stage involved sulfur content, also known as the "engine life indicator." The minimum value was found in A-95 petrol purchased at WOG (7 mg/kg), KLO, and ZOG in Zaporizhzhia (7 mg/kg each), comfortably exceeding Euro 5 allowances.
Regarding the aromatic hydrocarbon content, all participants have values within the normal range. The best indicator was in OKKO-only 14.7%, AVANTAGE 7- 28.5%.
The final step is the benzene test. It is also within the normal range. The lowest amount is in PRIME (0.19%, while the norm is no higher than 1%) and OKKO (0.21%).
After receiving all the results, Institute experts divided gas stations into three groups: green, blue, and red. The green group included all networks whose results complied with Euro 5 standards. This is high-quality European fuel that allows engines to work better and break down less frequently. The blue zone refers to Euro 4, where violations exist, but they are minor. The red zone indicates those who sell surrogate. Fuel in this category is of such poor quality that using it is critical for vehicles.
